There are certain bikes you should never sell. I regret a few, that's for sure.

Just picked up some new Excel wheels this afternoon that a wheel builder has made up for me
Not cheap but the bike is worth it
Next job is fitting Racetech springs and valves to the suspended and have it tuned to my riding and weight
Conclusion is that I have had all manner of newer and more modern KTM and Yamaha WR etc - which in paper are better ....but the XR400R is the best all round trail bike for me, especially as there is more roadwork in uk laning now

Awesome bikes, but agree with an earlier post, they can be (for their size) brutal and hard work on the trail - more suited to a decent rider. The 525 (or 500) is easier.
Here's mine on a lovely day out in the Lakes a few years ago.
The f***er damn near killed me on a rocky ravine up from Grisedale visitor centre (forgotten it's name), launched itself (too much throttle) up the drystone wall and buried itself in a tree! Only damage was a bent lever! They are the proverbial tough as f***.
When you're in the mood, they can't be beaten, but if you're pissing about they're not forgiving. They kind of remind me of the four stroke version of my road-prepped RM250 in a weird sort of way.

We're South Devon, always happy to have an outfit down for a days trail riding if you fancy it. The Torbay and the Exeter trial uses some of our land and the local trails for sections.diggermanbob wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 2:38 pmThat's very similar to my outfit 640lc4 motor and I will be trail riding and trials , where are you based ?
