Re: Led/HID headlamp MoT rule change.
We've discussed this before--and testers are implementing it. I've had to change out a perfectly good high quality LED in my old Transalp which had previously passed the beam cut off easily. My tester said its a dodgy interpretation when the ultimate test is the current beam pattern equipment. I could always change back after the MOT but on the Alp its a PITA--so I have yellow LED spots and a yellow halogen in the headlight (perfectly legal according to the latest regs)--anything to help being seen. I reckon bright car DTRLs have conditioned cage drivers to just recognise these and NOT a dipped beam. Also some bikes don't have the best generation system so running 50W all the time could flatten a battery in city stop/go. The irony is that if my Alp was an earlier non facelift model I could fit a stock 7x5 full LED pre-focus assembly (about 20 quid and e-marked and designed for a jeep Cherokee)--a complete ASSEMBLY is legal.

I know it's been discussed, but the note I posted above is the latest update (see date on it) - and I read it as they should not fail as long as they produce the required beam pattern,

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks when mine gets MOT'd.one-two-three-four wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 8:26 pm I know it's been discussed, but the note I posted above is the latest update (see date on it) - and I read it as they should not fail as long as they produce the required beam pattern,
As its passed in the past with the LED, I assume it's putting out the correct pattern - because surely it would have failed??
I'll keep an H7 in the top box "just in case"....

As expected, my bike sailed through it's MOT with the aftermarket Cyclops LED bulb firmly in place.
As it had passed with the bulb in last year, I was pretty sure it would!

Wow! How much?
That's a lot of money for a headlight bulb.

£80, it's already lasted 2 years, plus it has the benefit of letting me see at night.....
Price that against a decent quality H7 bulb every 8 or 9 months & it's a no brainer....

I’ve had mine through 2 MOTs also, he just muttered something about no focus, and hard to interpret ministry regulations that keep changing all the time. He’s old school. Passed with no advisory both times. Yes they are expensive, but as above, I can now see at night.

I have one of these https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/collec ... sion-9-32v at £33 each - i thought it was good value and performance. Note you can turn the bulb orientation to best suit your reflector - which you can not do on some.
