What’s happened to all the cheap bikes

Post by gothbiker »

Just been looking around for a cheap bike, what’s happened to them all? Xt and xr models have shot up, spent a while looking on Facebook and eBay, nothing to play with off road and a bit of road use...

Covid happened. Everyone looking for toys to play with as they've no holidays to spend their money on.

Even dogs are being sold with a high price. There are some dreamers though with their high prices.

I’m old enough to remember when you could buy a bmw r80 for £500!
I was looking what could be found for a bit of fun for the winter and the odd bit of off roading

Get a used Chinese bike...just like a Jap bike from the 70s or 80s, except made from monkey-metal and welded with cheese, oh, hang on...

there's an interesting comment on the KTM forum about how the price of older EXCs is going through the roof while the more modern sophisticated electronic shite is falling through the floor.

Quality will out, I'm afraid...and quality reached its peak in the '90s and early '20s. I drive a Focus MKII, and have an old-school KTM525 and 950, a GsGas Pampera and a Gen 1 Aprilia Mille. No plans to change any of them until I am too feeble for the KTMs, at which point a Royal Enfield 650 (a 1970s bike built now) will displace them. If I replace the Focus, I will have to find a car without one of those stupid television screens on the dashboard, or at least one where said screen can be permanently switched off.

A very good question. It's really hard to get an honest cheap run-around or even a field bike.

Look at this for instance:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1984-Kawasak ... SwV2Nfxjoi

A total pile of turd and there are 30 bidders!

Love the description though. "She's not in the best condition..."

I don’t know whats worse.
The person trying to sell it.
The people bidding on it.
The fact that you found it and wasted your time posting a link on here.
Or that I clicked on the link and looked at ALL of the photos!!!

Bloody hell!!!
