This time I’m just using Booking.com for cheap hotels. Only booking one or a couple of nights in advance to keep flexible with the weather.
I took my camping gear a couple of years ago when I rode the Alps on my Innova 125 but found that luggage space is at a premium and didn’t like heading into shops and castles and places whilst leaving my stuff on the back seat.
On this trip, I’ve just got a small bag with some food on the back seat so less to carry and less to worry about

Re: Go Big and Ride Small
I do carry my camping gear in Italy on an ongoing trip.
Most camping sites are almost empty. And service reduced to minimum. Restaurants and mini markets are often closed. Several evenings with only emergency food.
Camp sites are no longer made forvtents. With green grass and soft soil.(as we are used to in Nordic countries). No. Hard soil with gravel. Made for camping vans. Not tents with pegs. I feel like an outdated elephant, that does not belong there.
Those are other drawbacks of camping this time. And in this area. On top of the ones already mentioned. But I like tent.
Hotels also have few bookings. So big discounts are often possible. Cheap room when you only need a bed and a shower. Plus parking. And breakfast is often included.
So I agree that cheap hotels via Booking.com is good.
I use it when it is raining on this trip. But hotels on my Portugal tour. And that was so much easier.

Re: Go Big and Ride Small
My couple of days in Vienna are coming to an end and tomorrow I’ll head to Budapest then south into Croatia.
My main reason for coming to Vienna was to see the wild Black-bellied hamsters that live in Vienna’s vast Central Cemetery. I only had my iPhone and a cheap clamp-on zoom lens but was quite pleased with what I found.
