Well maybe when I am eventually hung for 'crimes to art' I shall take my place on his right hand....

there are no crimes in art, Dave .. just likes or dislikes ... don't undersell yourselfdaveuprite wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 5:50 pmWell maybe when I am eventually hung for 'crimes to art' I shall take my place on his right hand....
I am only just starting, myself ... its not so easy to be geniuses like wot we is, mate
to me, the important this, is to capture the spirit of a thing.. a scene, person or whatever.

Re: Go Big and Ride Small
If I stick to copying from a photo or another painting I'm vaguely OK - but not the face! I just can't do faces. I am on the side of the ancient egyptians. If I could paint everything 2D side-on, with the odd owl, a giant eye or a wimple thrown in, I'd be fine at that. Send me down a cave and I could have a decent stab at a few hieroglyphic gazelles. But the moment you introduce perspective I fall apart.
Might explain why I much prefer Miro and Mondrian to Millais and Mackintosh.
My work is basically a load of old Pollocks...

i am only just starting out.. but what i do with faces (and yes, they are very difficult) is .. trace the main features, place the canvas or paper.. on an easel .. then, completely ignore the perspective, and just look at the original (I print a copy of the face), to place alongside the easel, on another board
just keep referring to the print,
just copy faithfully,
ignore the perspective, and just copy the shades hues and shadows,
the perspective will follow your shading
when happy
release to the world
not my best but gives the idea ..

This wonderful, great talent Sir..!daveuprite wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 3:24 pm Another rainy day here, so watch out everybody, the paints are back out. Anything could happen...
This time it's for you Godspeed. As you can see it's totally awful, and I've made you look like some kind of Confucius on a moped. But it only took a couple of hours of splashing about. I even managed to finish it without cutting an ear off this time.
The great thing about never ever claiming to be any good at painting is that my 'work' consistently proves it....
I actually think your onto something here.....this would make a fabulous vinyl album cover.....along with a new Band name..... superb.
Clever stuff.
Cheers;
Peter

Now Jax actually knows what she's doing. I like her ducks (if you see what I mean...).
