Re: Building a rally bike or trying anyway
The lad had me out today priming his controllers
so I just couldn't resist working on the bike while in between coats of paint and put one of my sets of forks on while the others are being sent off and I got to say they a lovely fit and exactly the same ride height as Moy old conventionals I think the more and more iam building this bike the more and more it's getting like a t7 world rally raid ... next iam gonna have find some good risers and bars to fit it any ideas of a good choice iam thinking rental fat bars with 1 inch riser to make the front yokes a little higher so it's easier to clear all the gadgets etc from the bodywork and frame and the handguards should fit a little better with the lift aswellAll things built not bought . Come out wrong that didn't mean make the yokes higher ment to say it will make the yokes bar riser higher as there molded in so can't change them. Will have to find a 7/8 adapter to a 28.6 fat bar ... depending on bars choice

This is from Chris Birch's FB feed recently. I'm sure he won't mind my re-posting it here. For riding rallies, mainly you have no idea what terrain is coming or what issues so position one is critical for safety, control and just "being prepared". Note his comment re bar risers too.

The main change you will have to make is going to be heavier springs in the fork, presumably they came off a WR250 OR 450 which weighs a lot less than your bike does/will and of course rider weight (no offence but you mentioned you were quite heavy)

Re: Building a rally bike or trying anyway
I was planning on going up to the highest spring they do for it to be fair as someone mentioned before to go one spring up at front anyway to counter the extra weight from the gadgets etc that will be on the front end ... and with the extra weight of the bike and me iam thinking better to just go straight for 48kg springs as that's the highest I have seen for the forks... the forks are from a yz 426 but all the forks from a 125 up to 450 in yz models use the same forks and triples up to around 2005 then they changed. I decide they were a good choice as they are said to have the triple s system in them making them a good fork to work on and tune well the only thing iam gonna have to try out with different types of weights of oils when I get them back . As I want it to be able to soak up them stones and bumps up to a few inch with ease but still be able to take everything else with ease to and not bottom out to much. For now iam just happy they fit I took a risk with these as I just read somewhere they fit yea I need a 3mm spacer between bearings and the top yoke but other than that they went straight in.HedgeHopper wrote: βSun Dec 31, 2017 3:54 pm The main change you will have to make is going to be heavier springs in the fork, presumably they came off a WR250 OR 450 which weighs a lot less than your bike does/will and of course rider weight (no offence but you mentioned you were quite heavy)
