xt 660z tenere or new africa twin
Re: xt 660z tenere or new africa twin
I wanted to have both not anymore.
Kinda different technologically bikes to compare don't you think? B)
although category the same, adventure touring.
I have already xt660z which I got after canceling new AT order last year and I don't regret it.
I still may be interested in getting africa twin once honda fixes all issues we heard about it so far and come up with lighter rally version.

Rather depends on what your intended use is IMO.
Ie single vs twin cylinder, M way vs B roads. Any off road?
would never want to MWay very far on a single, too many vibes.
Both are heavy but some seem to favour singles for off road, IMO depends upon the type of off road - I've seen a competent rider get the new AT over some very gnarly tracks without any drama.
The XT is well proven, the AT has a bit to prove as yet.

I loved my Tenere and did a lot of miles on it..but the seat killed me and i tried every thing to fix it.
If the AT has a better seat then it wins hands down.
Or how about a mixture of the two...Tenere engine and shape with AT suspension etc.

Re: xt 660z tenere or new africa twin
I'm a tenere rider,only this year,moving down from a 12gs.
I like it's abilities but I'm tempted to test ride the 800gs,tiger 800 and AT for comparison, and looking forward to see yamahas replacement.
I agree about the seat. I'm tall and the hump gives me the hump. I'm about to get the seat reshaped to remove the offending article.

but for me seat is very comfortable, been riding 11 hours straight and no problem.
obviously people have different shaped arses
BTW I'd love to have a little bit more HP on tenere, so I'd take engine from AT for tenere.

Re: xt 660z tenere or new africa twin
Both are brilliant and legendary bikes but down to personal choice. owned both.. the CRF1000 is an awesome bike on and most importantly off road, its almost an enduro machine. very flick able and powerful.I got rid of it however as the aforementioned issues which annoyed me TBH. the Xt is an older design but looks great and goes well for a single and of course incredibly robust. II would however see if the New Enduro Sport thing comes out and maybe go for one of those as they do look uber cool.
I put a set ok TK80'S on which lasted less than 800 miles, If I were doing more off road then XT but 2/3rds is on road then the AT wins, hope they sort out the issues.
