KTM1190

Post by DB1200 »

Considering a KTM1190 (Having a test Ride Next Week) anyone had any Issues / Bad experiences with them ? I have heard that build quality is a bit problematic is that fact or fiction ?

I had a 2014 1190 , not R , so electronic suspension adjustment , did about 11000 mls on it , main issues , front wheel was running out by about 13mm from new , wheel replaced , when two up front was very vague and vibrated a lot felt like it would wash out , in the time I had it average life of front tyre was 2000mls , becoming very stepped which made feeling worse , I moved from original equip tyres and this improved handling and vibration issue , it was t balancing bearings etc , I put it down to the electronic form adjustment but we never got to the bottom of it , shop confirmed same issue on a couple of others they had sold , when not two up bike performed better but ridden hard always felt I needed to weight the front end on cornering , I had no other issues with the bike , had I the choice again I'd go for the R version as At least you can manually tune suspension , it was the fourth ktm I'd had ie 990's 950's , only other gripe is if buying new ktm always seem to do deals knocking value off your newly acquired bike , so shop around I think at mo they're offering vat free or similar , just my opinion and experience , cheers

engineering wise it looks a bit of rushed together bike. and you expect more refinement in such price range bike. did not get the chance to ride the bike, so maybe the riding outweighs all the short backs.

I've got the one with the electronic suspension and love it. The fuel gauge acted up but overall it's been great and the build quality is miles better than the Multistrada I had before the 1190.

I Had an 1190R for three years, had loads of problems with it, it was one of the first ones. also the corrosion was terrible, KTM did not want to know, at the end of the warranty I gave up with fighting them and sold it at a low price, gone over to a Africa Twin DST, you would think I would miss the power , I just don't, I am made up with it !!!

I rode an AT (DCT) before I bought my Tenere. liked it a lot but felt it struggled a bit on the Motorway. If I found a good used one i might be tempted ;-)

1190r for around two years, no issues other than the 'improvements' to the airbox other than that nothing, two tours two up without issue, goes like a champ.
Best bike ive had so far.
Once you've ridden one it'll make sense :D
