Is it any good?
It is indeed....

On the road
Smooth as for a big single.
Great on fuel
Good road manners
Cruises along nicely 80
Plenty of grunt for the overtakes.
Ergonomics nicely laid out

Off road

Its a f*****g animal when pushed.
Feels like a big 450
Light for what it is
Great carrying capacity
Great tractable motor although I'm gunna go down one on the front.

Cons

Shit fuel cap design can let crap into the tank being flush mount and its a pain when you have a bag strapped on the back and you wanna fuel up.

Side stand needs shortening way to long bike almost sits upright.

All in all I'm really pleased i sold my 990 for one and wouldn't look back.

Thanks for the review

I went the T7 route-but maybe should have gone the 701 way

I have access to both JB, there's a fair bit of overlap. The 701 is good off tarmac, up to a point, usable for distance on the road. The T7 is better on road but still usable off.
If I was going out trail riding it's the 701, if I just want a ride that may take in some trails I'll pinch my wifes T7, if she's not using it.

I'll bear witness that Steve rode his 701 all the way from 'Up North' of England to Catalunya, then spent a whole week off-roading with us on proper trails in the mountains, then rode it back again. Steve's a good rider but it did everything that the rest of us were doing on 450/500 enduro bikes. There's not much better evidence of how good that bike is than that. About as good a dirt-oriented compromise bike as you'd want IMO.

Ideally you'd have ridden the 1000 miles down on a Sports Tourer and then swapped to a KTM500, but Steve did the whole lot on one bike. Very impressive.
