I do smile when I see people not willing to TRAVEL to a dealer, or even attempt basic maintenance themselves...

Well, the levels of complexity of modern bikes, and the increasing lack of any background in maintenance is going to lead to this outcome.

I am not alone in being willing (and able) to do most of the work myself on my bikes, but I do have my achilles heel... Valves! Blame it on never trusting or riding a 4T for most of my riding life, well the first 20-25 years anyway! I can do them and have done so numerous times, but even now I doubt my own ability...

Being willing to travel can depend a bit on the distance and the location to the Dealer... For me to get to Bolton would be a 2hr miserable motorway trip! :whistle: Albeit the delights of Bolton will await any person fortunate enough to be visiting there...

To offer a bit of balance here. I been a biker since 2013 and apart from you guys on here and a few work mates I know no one with much mechanical training or experience (I'm an electrical engineer). I also live in Rural Somerset about 200 miles from Bolton. I'm happy to have a stab as maintaining my DR350 or take it to my local mechanic. But if I was spending over £8k on a bike that came with a warranty I'd like to think I wouldn't need to do a 400mile round trip for warranty work.

I'm pretty sure that CCM will service your bike at home, don't know what they would charge for this, otherwise your friendly BMW dealer would be perfectly capable of doing an oil change filter change and valve check. You might even find that the guys welcome a change from doing service work on GSs. Just remind them not to reset the ECU

Thus far CCM have come to me in NW Kent. If you have half decent bike maintenance/fettling skills and if you have an extra pair of hands to help - just to hold stuff - they are easy to deal with (like many bikes of course).

The servicing wouldn't really matter too much on an ex demo bike because it's either out of warranty or only offered with a relatively short one and once the warranty is up on any bike the only thing I pay to have done is valve shimming simply because I don't have the kit for it.

looks nice doesnt it ... i know that engine is probably just what your looking for its very very nice its the same one as the swm but the swm was a big letdown in the offroad stakes i wanted to like it but its so far behind behind theccm on the rough stuff the nice engine was nowhere near enough to sway me away

this looks to be a different animal ..i like the look of it a lot pity the guy gave no real riding information ..but its a first ..ive always liked the look of it interesting bike..
its a bit like the ccm was early on in so much it has just taken far too long to come out ..so ive bought another ccm
..someone elses turn buy one to try it out ..come on you know you want to one for the future for me maby (thumbs)

There are a couple of other short ride reports floating about, as you say, it feels a lot like the CCM (....and Africa twin) marketing build up!

Sounds like it'll be upper end pricing, 7-8 Grand or so, but that was to be expected, as with CCM, it will be a low volume specialist bit of kit, although probably better marketed as AJP have already got their feet in some of the big markets like the US and Oz.

The motor is probably right as you say, and they are using a wide ratio box (hallelujah!!) just the ergos to check, and like the CCM, they seem to look right.

Holy thread revival Batman!

A few years have gone by now, and after 2 years of having my PR7… I’m looking to replace it.

Currently between a CRF, a newer PR7 and a KTM690.. though the CCM is a bit of a wild card thought for me

Pretty much my considerations too, all but settled on the CRF now. Looking at one Tuesday hopeing to buy it, like many buyers perhaps it certainly does not rock my boat but ticks more boxes than anything else for my requirements, but even then is not coming close to being my Unicorn. Your shortlist is identical to mine ridden 690, and CRF but your knowledge is ahead of mine as a 7 owner not ridden one or the CCM. Interested why you would consider leaving the AJP camp. for me 690 too much everything. unnecessary/disadvantage for a large part of my riding mainly because of the cost of all that performance and a bike that is not ready to go. CCM nearly there, it grew one small stump on its head, CCM fucked it up completely in my opinion as a biker but I am no businessman, a sorry tale in my mind. CRF rally the very very boring safe option zero fun out local with the boys, but 10 days in to a Solo Euro trip it may not matter so much or even at all- unsure of this I will have to try one on a trip to know. PR7 not ridden one, very tall apparently I have little skinny legs, alot of people seem to do a lot of poking about with fueling and some bizzare starting issues above and beyond the battery issue gives me the head scratches, Never had the opportunity to make my own opinion, AKA 690 just a little too much but I came close to putting it on top of my list. Have been running 2 GS12's one on the road and one for the trails, but a technical issue and me getting older the GS seems to be getting heavier to pick up so its probably time for a different approach, I really do still enjoy the GS on the trails though. What are your thoughts I wonder Kelvyn?
