I'm looking for a set of tyres for my DRZ. Ideally for Trail riding but also road friendly. I was going to opt for a pair of Maxxis. Great grip for the mud but don't last as long as I hoped on my last bike.

Any sugguestions? :)

I'm just about to put a set of Mefo Explorers on my 350, good tread depth and they seem to stick to the road well enough.

cheers Spud ;)

The Meffos are superb tyres for road and dry trails. Not so great on loose surfaces but OK. Not really happy in anything snotty.

I like MT21s as a 50/50 tyre. Life isn't great on road loaded but they're pretty good on most surfaces.

I also use MT21 and happy with them - except in deep mud

My dtz400s has E gearing at the moment I bought it like that, so as im taking it to the pyrenees in september was thing about sticking it on S gearing, how different is it on road and of road on standard set up any advise would be great.

15/44 is S and what's on mine, it's really natural at 65-70mph, feels at home

75-80 is ok, but feel strained and revvy, sweet spot is 65-70mph on 15/44

I did 2 days of gnarly/tight Devon lanes on 15/44 and 1st gear was fine - with no stalling or bogging or needing the clutch

On wide open Pyrenees trails I can't see a need for anything lower, like 14/47

However you could always take a 14 and put it on if you need it when you get there

Problem with the DRZ, it has a close ratio box and a short spread of gears, they are much closer than the XR400, I have as well

15:44 is fine for all but the most nadgery climbs and those are manageable if you suspend your mechanical sympathy for a bit (feather the clutch and keep the revs up)

First time I went to Pyrenees I ran 15:44 down on the road and then swapped the front to a 13. Didn't bother last time and the only times it was a bit iffy were fully fueled and loaded with luggage getting up a steep ramp onto the ferry and up the little goat track to our digs.

Well the Seat Concepts seat has arrived from the US

I bought it used, via ebay over there, from a private seller - it cost me £185 shipped, incl import fees (about the same price as a SC cover and foam, imported to the UK - which then I would have had to have fitted to a base etc) and this was easier, as I could fit it in 2 minutes and she's good to go (thumbs)

It is in good nick, already mounted on a genuine DRZ seat base - to ensure a perfect fit (thumbs)

It is a vast improvement to the stock DRZ plank, being wider at the middle to the back and firmer, whilst being narrow and 'nipped in' at the front for standing on pegs

Just been out for an hour and half around the lanes, non stop and it's fab - much, much better

No more numb bum (thumbs)

Original DRZ 'plank'

Seat Concepts luxury

Bit taller now, still get my feet down though and makes the seat/bar/peg more comfy for me, another bonus (thumbs)
