Hi
I'm on my second f 800 gs and never had a problem with paint on the engine at all,I have a friend who as had the same for 3 yrs. never had a problem,I would say though that the bolst on the brakes ( front) and rear wheel axle went a bit iffy other than that a great bike. Go buy :)

Mines 3 years old 7k and had corrosion on the sump and front hub. My dads got an 09 also with higher miles and no signs of any corrosion (Git) The sumps easily rectified as you can get to it easy the front hubs way more fiddly! I did these 6 months back and I keep the bike coated in Acf50 so far no more signs of it. I've had no other problems such as headstock or wheel bearings etc and some people have put big miles on these bikes without issue. I personally wouldn't be put off by the corrosion its easily rectified should it occur, overall I'm a big fan of these bikes as they're a good compromise against the 1200gs. The engines have enough punch but can get a bit vibey if you want to travel significantly North of the motorway speed limit all day but as I try to avoid sitting on mways I forgive cos its good at everything else B) regards AL

My 650GS twin has done 40,800 miles in 4 years, so far it has been the best bike I have owned.

There is a small amount of engine paint coming off, and my forks need a little attention. But its gone through all sorts of weather and not been as well looked after and cleaned as it should have been.

Great all round bike as the fuel economy and being so easy to ride makes it a great day to day transport!

My 800 Trophy has done 9,000 inc through the winter, used ACF50 which has protected the engine casings so no corrosion.
However the calliper bolts and the rivets on the floating discs are showing some rust, but will clean up.

Apart from that. Loving the little GS.
