Heated grips

Post by qcnr »

I have Oxford heated grips and I do like the warmth they provide.
I do not like the grips though, they are very hard and transmit a lot of vibration.
So my plan is to but some stand alone elements and connect those to the Oxford
wiring, then remove the oxford grips and replace with some comfy ones, like the
KTM original ones that I removed to fit the Oxford ones.

Just wondering if anyone has done something similar and did it work. Electrikery is
not my strong point.

You can get heating elements for ATVs that slip between the bar and your grip of choice. Try your local farm ATV dealer.

Greetings qcnr,

There are numerous under grip heaters around, the basic principle is the same but prices can vary. I have Symtec fitted to my Serrow and had them on the Beta too, both performed well for me. You might also consider larger hand guards, heated gloves, and the cheapest option might be and/or handlebar muffs, not particular attractive but they really do work.

Perhaps the following links might be of assistance;

You could put some grip puppies on top, not sure how much heat would get through but for a few quid its worth a try.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Seen the grip puppies, but I think they may insulate the heat from the grips. And in Norway
heated grips are a must, even had them on yesterday.

The issue here isn't really the heating, it is more to do with the comfort of the grips, and whether
generic elements could be hooked up to the Oxford wiring system that is already in place, if I get
rid of their grips. Just clip the wires, remove grips, connect generic elements to wiring, new spongy
soft comfortable grips.
That would save mucho faff :D

Grip Puppies are ok with heated grips. Just takes a bit longer for the heat to get through

push the boat out and buy some more ktm grips, as you found them comfy.

I used symtec ones and always had trouble getting a good earth.
even a skinflint like me bought some genuine Honda heated grips at £330, (though actually the oxford grips were hotter), but i consider heated grips an essential ... and i dont even live in icey northlandford.

bodged jobs will always be .. bodged jobs ... get the proper thing and save yourself a lot of future hassle.
