Tyres

Post by Flipflop »

Hi, sorry about a tyre question but at least it’s not about oil

I usually run K60s, on my GS, for their longevity but I keep reading all the positive reviews about the Dunlop trail max mission from the states - they almost sound too good to be true. Anyway, my front K60 still has loads of life so I only need a rear - will it be alright to mix?
I can’t believe in 35 years of riding that I’ve always used matching tyres - I’ve read about people mixing but would appreciate any thoughts.
Cheers

he did a feature on this topic not sure if it were this episode though.

only one way to find out...

an unmatched pair of modern tyres is probably a hell of a lot safer than a matched pair of Yoke-a-homo 'Whispering Deaths' were back in the 1970s.

Currently running an Annakee 2 on the front and an Annakee Adventure on the rear of the Explorer. Not really mix and match I guess, but works for me. But like you, I’ve always thought matching is best.

Recently bought new pair of Metzeler Tourance (not Next) for my V-Strom DL1000 for £149 Inc free delivery, not a bad deal I thought.

I'm currently running the OEM Dunlop Trailmax on the front of my GP450 and a Heidenau K60 on the rear.

The only way you are going to find out what combination of tyres, pressures, loading, bike and riding style works is to try it out.

You are unlikely to find someone else that is using, has used, the exact combination you are interested in.

I remember those things, the greasiest tyre ever.

But the first thing you did on buying a bike before taking it out of the shop.......change them out to TT100 or Avon Road Runners.....
