It's certainly made me think on the usage of the repaired tyre after a repair. The but, and it's a big one, how many people have had a tyre deflate due to a failed repair?

I got one of these from the KTM forum. Actually got two, leave one in the van.
Normal type of dog turd sticky, but all enclosed in housing.. have used it on van, car and bike, to good effect.
Doesn't have a reamer tho, luckily I had a couple spare.

peeps be aware that the orrible brown sticky things come in different diameters so caution may be needed mixing and matching tools and strings etc, not had the need to mix and match myself, so can not confirm if it would be problem in practice or not.

Not at all, I've seen tyres that have gone bald round a mushroom plug. I've repaired car & bike tyres & run them until they need replacing. I'm more than happy to take the risk of something the same width as the hole hitting the repair at the same angle & pushing the plug out - anything that thin would be just as likely to make another hole if it hit the tyre elsewhere...

I carry some strings I bought years ago as backup, but haven't needed them yet.

Worst case scenario - AA...... :lol:

I carry as a security blanket really, as I have tubes on my 990, but had a flat on my van and car at home, common sense will dictate the use of a puncture repair ie a screw yes, a tear or split, I'll get the jack out and whip the spare on.
For the 990 I carry Holts tyre weld for emergencies on and off road

I still have tubes, so this isn't really relevant for me. However got a puncture last year but got home.
Bought a new HD Michelin tube to fit. When I took the original innertube out I was surprised to find it looked
like something that would fit a mountain bike :shock:
Fitting the HD tube was an ordeal as compared to the original tube, it looked like it would fit an armoured vehicle :lol: :lol:

Word of warning don't repair Z rated tyres.

I had a nail in a nearly new rear tyre and a proper internal patch repair on my FJR1300. It eventually blew at 70mph overtaking a lorry on a dual carriageway. Managed to keep the bike under control and got to the side of the road. Eternally grateful to the lorry driver who saw I was in trouble, put on his hazards, and slowed down behind me, protecting me.

The tyre split across the tread and I could get a couple of fingers in the hole. The original nail had cut some of the steel reinforcement wires and eventually further use caused others to break leading to the big blow out.

Not a thing to happen when you are nearly 70 years old.
