Tar very much...

Post by daveuprite »

I have very much TAR all over my bike. We rode along a section of freshly laid tarmac / bitumen in Spain and the bike's covered in it.

Won't come off with muck off or washing up liquid.

Any suggestions... WD40? Brake cleaner? Kerosene? Or is there a special product/solvent I should try?

It's on the mudguards, other plastic bodywork, the frame, the sump guard, the swingarm - bloody everywhere. And it's stubborn.

Thanks for any ideas.

my first choice was always Paraffin .. but last time i used it it was not very effective (on my gummed up drive chain) .. sometimes oven cleaner has worked for me ... for the hands afterwards i use butter .. but need to be rubbed in well for a long time .. don't get any on the willie :D

Greetings,

In the past I have used Autoglym Tar Remover with good effect.

Thanks everyone. I'll get to work tomorrow and see what works best. This is not a few spots of tar on a car front spoiler - it's everywhere.

It’s all that EU money they get. ;)
They’re the only ones who can afford nice new road surfaces.
