I wonder what that wire was supposed to do?
Could be a Lambda sensor input or similar.

I had a tdm850 great bike , you mite want to check the timing chain + tensioner high milers can give bother. Difficult to start, the engines are basically bullet proof as long as you change oil regularly, be careful when changing oil due to dry sump.
