Tyre choices.....help pls

Post by FatFreddy » Wed Mar 14, 2018 10:16 am

Pushing my own “what bike” thread down the list here but considering buying a G650GS. The one I’ve looked at is shod with tyres that look to be primarily for tarmac (sorry, forgot to check what make etc).
What tyres would you recommend for a G650GS that would also cope with a bit of mud from time to time?

I have a gs 800 and use Karoo 3 they work well over all terrains and so far my rear has 6000 miles on it with about 2 Mum tread remaining.

I would never push them as hard as a road tyre thou

Thanks.
Am considering getting a second set of wheels.
Have one shod with sticky road tyres and another with Knobblys.

I don't go off road but for convenience I have 2 sets of wheels with road tyres which I have as spares and swap in my own time. Getting new tyres then is just a case of taking wheels to have them fitted and the bikes aren't off road at all.

Nothing like having spare wheels.

I would reckon its worth having two sets of wheels, one for decent road tyres and one for really good off road tyres. That way you have the best tyres for each application apart from when you are riding to trails on off road tyres.

All i use now on my AT are the Mitas tyres. They are a 50/50 compound tyre, but i got 9,000miles out of the rear tyre and still had another 2-3000 miles left on.

I have never had a problem with the Heidenau K-60. But can only get the winter version (special compound for low temps)
in tube type. It wears very quickly in summer, so I get about 10000km to a rear tyre. Have now ordered a Continental
ContiEscape to put on the rear, see how that works :)
