Bosch fuel pump. What we need to know

Post by legoman »

Went to my local car spares center today for a bosch fuel pump for my bmw f650gs 800gs. Part number 0580 454 094.may fit other models of BMW's. And as I was in there he phoned bosch for some stats on the pump and they told him that the pump in question is discontinued but they have a few left is stock so it would have come with a 2 year guarantee which would now be useless. And there is no replacement from bosch. Just stopping making it. So had to get a Lucas fuel pump for £50... So now you all know

Similar for my K100, saucy money at BMW but a search produced the fact that the K has the same pump as most Fiats, Lancias and many other cars of the era and a straight fit at £50 from eBay UK supplier!
You posted the BMW part no but if you post the Bosch Part No we can find where else they are fitted!!
This link to Bosch covers all bikes and cars and anything Bosch make parts for!!!

That was the Bosch part number.. Not the the BMW number sorry for writing it down like that. Should read it more than twice to make sure it's right. The Lucas one I brought fits many a car aswell. There was another pump there aswell 3 in all. Can't remember the 3rd one's make but all the same

I'm sure the UKGSer forum lists a Toyota pump, the info is out there.

Plenty of kits for sale on eBay.
This is something I need to get round to doing on mine as I know its one of the ones that has a problem (not all of them do).

Are these, either the Bosch or Lucas, direct fit replacement or would they need any kind of modification/adjustment to replace the OEM one?

For a couple of times in the last few days, while around 80 on the motorway, the bike started with some kind of hesitation, as if it was running out of fuel. It cuts off for a second and comes back, and again and again... after a few minutes doing this and as I back off with the throttle, it went back to normal. I suspect this is caused by fuel pump failure as well. Should I be looking at anything else?

Cheers
