Disposing of used Engine Oil
Quick Question - when disposing of old Engine Oil with your local councils, do you have to take and leave the receptacle you transport it in, there at the council tip?
Or do you pour it into a big waste drum when you get there?
Am starting to do my own servicing (basic bits for now) I have a washing up bowl to drain the oil out into - and an old Jerry Can to transport it ot the tip in - but can I bring my empty Jerry Can home? Or will it get stacked up in a lock up, full up, never to be seen again..
:)

Re: Disposing of used Engine Oil
My local "Recycling" centre has a tank you empty into.
But I get rid of mine to a local garage that have a heater system that uses waste oil. (thumbs)

Re: Disposing of used Engine Oil
Just get your hands on a 25lt oil drum, I have 6... Then when full, take to the tip and empty into a large tank, then take your empty container home to use again...

Yep the local council usually provide a large recycling tank to pour it in to check their website for more information.

I've got one of those Halfords containers that you put under the sump to catch the old oil. It takes 10 litres and lasts 2 oil changes. Then I take it to the dump and empty it into the tank.

Empty into council tip tank
Just make sure there's no petrol in the mix as they can really upset if you put petrol in.

I generally strain mine through some rags and then shake it up with heating oil and put it in my heating oil tank.KTMBLAG wrote:I take mine to my local garage he as a waste oil burner for the heating.

You can use old oil to paint your garden fence (if u have one), saves a trip to the recycling centre
