Would this work, on CONVENTIONAL FORKS

http://www.kriega.com/products/Fork-Seal.html

I'm looking for some fork leg protection and have bought some boot gaitors, but not fitted as yet and requires a front end strip down

I then came across the Kriega seal guards (and it was a system I was thinking of home making already, with neoprene and velcro and the aid of a sewing machine)

It says USD forks only, but for the life of me can't see why it wouldn't work on normal forks?

Thoughts anyone?

I have them on my GS Johnny (had them on my 800 and just stuck them on the 12) and had no issues, now you've mentioned it I suppose any grit could lay on the top edge where on upside downers it would just fall off?

I thought that, up or down I doubt it would make a lot of difference

I put a new fork leg on earlier in the year after the accident, I will keep an eye on it to see if there is any marking up.

Gimmick!
You have a seal in your forks keeping the crap out, why wrap around something that will soak up water and hold it against your forks. waste of hard earned cash IMO but that's the engineer in me talking.

Mmm.....
I was hoping to keep some crud away from the deal area altogether

The chrome on your forks is only a few thou deep. I would say that any crud picked up underneath could scratch the fork.
If you are going to use them then I would remove them after any dirty or wet riding and clean them properly.
Saying that I have never used them and to be honest I wouldn't.

Would you use rubber fork gaitors instead then?

Depends on what type of riding you do. Do you off road?
I have the rubber stock ones on my XTZ and KLR but the next front end strip down I do on my bikes I'm taking them off as I prefer to not have any at all.
At least the rubber ones usually have a hole at the bottom to drain water out.
