Maxxicross It report

Post by Tramp »

Hi folks..

well been using the maxxis maxxicross it..

http://www.maxxis.co.uk/catalog/tyre-95 ... 7304-m7305

I used the 110/80/18 on the rear of my ccm644 which uses the freewind/dr650 motor and weights 140kg..about 50bhp (thumbs) ..the tyre is road legal and has 18mm tread depth when new cost me £45 from local mx shop..easy to fit as side walls are no where near as hard as mitas E-09 ..they bed in after 200mls..

they grip well on dry twisty roads and dont mind a bit of rain road motorways at 65mph without issues..gravel is great and they love mudd..aka hedgehog  ..track well in rutts too..

Ive ridden 3000mls now and still have 8mm centre left..went to portugal with 10mm and dropped to 8mm inc being covered in engine oil..i did around 900mls road work with them at speeds upto 70mph loaded with luggage..160kg max weights..

I would rate these tyres as brilliant for touring/trails ..they fronts are reported to be as good and will use one next after my armyspecial wears out..normally get 5k from the front..

I dont rag the hell out of tyres and ride safely but spirited..

so something for folk to consider...I would even use one on a 200kg big bike as compared to the C-02 Ive used before they ride better and will wear better..

just info... (thumbs)

Preaching to the choir mate (thumbs)

but fyi the fronts are terrible. Poor grip, all down to the shape of the side knobs. Better alternative is a metzeler 6 days extreme hard (90/100/21).

The biggest size of IT is a reported 120/100/18 (that's the one I use). It's not actually physically a 120, its a 135.

okay old thread but good info..

I use the army special up front and mt21 rears on a ktm690...

does the 120 make any difference over the 110 width rears..bearing in mind that narrower is better in rutts and gloopy mudd...

is the front any good for long distance euro trips..mine tend to be 3k round trips with tarmac and trails...need something that lasts and works..my armyspecial front just isnt cutting it in the gloop so need a more open tyre..never ride over 65mph and travel light..

typical terrain is well anything from normal grass rutted tracks to gravel and rocky mountain stuff..

this is really a general question to those like minded nutters..not the normal tourists :P

im more the scenic explorer..see something nice and go for it :woohoo:

I've got a Maxxis IT on the rear of my 690.

Great tyre as many have said before.
Can lean it over in the corners and have a great deal of confidence on the road with it.

Be careful not to lock the back up on tarmac as you may damage the knob's
I've managed to tear one off. :(

But at 45 / 50 a pop, it's pretty cheap!

I find them OK on the back as well & I've mixed a back IT with a front MT21 which was also OK. (thumbs)

This is the combo im going to go for on my 644. used MT21 fronts before on my Tenere, and apart from wearing funny....there great. never tried the rear IT but you or seem happy so will give it a try.

Cheers all...

No one use the front m7304? Then...for me the armyspecial front is.better than the mt21 for euro trails and touring..lasts twice as long as mt21...
As i asked i need a more open tread akin to a mx tyre but road legal hence the maxxicross it front question...surely some us it on their ktm690 for europe...lol

You won't regret the Maxxis.
M7313 is a very focussed winter tyre. Mud luver like no others with a massive road load & speed rating.
Not realy comparable with the army special.
Your mates prooved the pudding hasn't he. A great 42 quids worth.

It's an enduro tyre not a "winter" tyre per se. They are good, just don't last due to the soft compound. In Greece this year my mate had them (he'd meant to buy IT's and got the code wrong) and they were lasting precisely a day in mixed terrain (on a ktm 400 exc)
