2 stroke meeting
Maybe we can use the very popular term "adventure" for this.
Even the bike is far from what marketing calls "adventure bike".
The goal is to travel on a Suzuki GT 750.
That this year it is 50 years old.
The bike is/was stored 200 km from where I live.
(yes.. emergency solution when I sold the house that included a large garage: I am searching for better alternatives)
The plans is travel :
a) storage place to home : 200 km
b) home to Grisslehamn; 300 km
c) ferry to Åland (Eckerö)
d) Eckerö to Mariehamn (50 km)
e) One day touring Åland. In a group of around 15 2-stroke machines
f) Same way back. All the way to the storage.

2 stroke meeting - start up the bike
I rode my GTR 1400 to Arboga. Where the storage is.
I made a short service of the GT 750.
And started it up. It worked fine. A loooot of blue smoke.
It smells soooo good.
A short ride to the first petrol station. I filled up petrol and 2 stroke oil. And started the drive towards home.
All went fine for 70 km. But there, Suddenly. Dead. The main fuse was blown. I replaced it. But pang...
Short circuit. I disconnected everything except the ignition coils and was able to ride home.

Trouble shooting
I started trouble shooting. After quite some time I found the root course.
One wire that goes to the generator had no insulation left. 50 years of vibrations in contact with metal......
The wire itself was easy to replace, once I have fond it.
The purpose of that wire was to feed the generator with current to the magnetization coils.
The current is regulated by the voltage regulator.
I have replaced the regulator some time ago. With a modern version. Solid state device instead of relays.
The short circuit had killed also part of this device.
So no current was feed to the generator.
It takes weeks to get a replacement. But only days left to take of.
Emergency fix ? Try to feed some current via a fixed resistance.
I tried some different solutions. I used some parts that are used when you replace normal bulbs with LED.
Two 21W replacement connected serial was close enough.
It gives some charging, but maybe not enough to ride with lights on.
Or to start with empty battery and the generator loads it.
But if I start with a fully charged battery. (14 Ah) I would have a good range.
And I can recharge the battery during the night, if needed.
At least, that is the plan.
The solution is tested stationary.
Tomorrow, I will take a test ride. And if things look OK.
Take of is Friday morning.

Re: 2 stroke meeting
My favourite motorcycle of all time, I've never owned one unfortunately, here's a photo of one I shot at a Motorcycle show last year in Edinburgh.

Re: 2 stroke meeting
Anyone remember the Dresda Suzuki that was a Bike Magazine project back in the late '70s?
It had what was pretty much a copy of a Norton Featherbed frame.

Re: 2 stroke meeting
Adventure is over.
I tested today the charging.
And it worked,
But some other electrical problems.... Escalated to large damage.
This bike will not run any more this year.
Very sad
It has been working well for quite some time since I restored it.
So I will not be part of the 2 stroke meeting. But I can ride there to watch.
The sad thing is that I do not have time, workshop and energy to make another large work with this bike.
It was supposed to be time to use it, after all the work.
But....
I am very disappointed
