Crap weather blues - last minute Snowdonia antidote

Post by philwin7 »

After a few weeks of biblical weather up here in the North West I saw a brief weather window approaching on the forecast and decided for the sake of sanity to grab it and head off on the T7.

I phoned all the usual suspects to see if anyone fancied joining me, unfortunately grown up stuff put paid to any company so I saddled up on a chilly Wednesday morning and set sail for my overnight stop in Machynlleth.

After the obligatory M6 stint I got down into Wales and the first mountains and twisty roads :D

I had to stop when I saw this sword in the stone at the side of the road...I'm sure a touch of WD40 would soon have it out of there!

From here it was up into the hills and into weather that would put into question the forecasters credentials! passing the start of the path up Snowdon and continuing down the other side, the light was amazing and another photo stop

Continuing the route I decided to head for the coast at this point as the weather looked a bit... well crap! So I headed towards Fairbourne where I'd done some adventure training a good few years ago. The weather lifted and I arrived just in time for a cracking sunset.

Suitably impressed with the stunning scenery and roads I made my way to the overnight digs at the Maenllwyd Guest House. This was a solid place to stay and there's plenty of private parking around the back of the property and the owner couldn't have been more helpful, he also did a great breakfast all in the £60 price

Day 2 was another chilly start, but we got packed up and headed out in the sunshine

The roads were pretty deserted and apart from being aware of the wet leaves everywhere I had great fun on the way over towards Lake Vyrnwy. The T7 was perfect for this sort of thing, I've added a a 1 tooth larger front sprocket for road based trips and a Seat Concepts one piece comfort seat which all added up to a great bike for just clearing off and exploring.
The weather held and as I got over to the lake it was looking stunning.

The road around the lake was a great little loop and well worth doing if you have the time, with the sun actually staying out all day the colours coming through the trees were pretty epic https://ibb.co/2NqC94S https://ibb.co/6Rd83pN

After this I was pretty much heading towards Bala where I could get fuel and look at heading North towards home again! But before this I spotted a twin track heading off up the hillside...so I decided to have a quick look!

Again the T7 proved itself to be a willing partner in this sort of stuff, I've done much more technical off road stuff with it but it's a joy to use of this adventure touring type stuff ;)
After a few more miles of great roads it was back onto the necessary evil that is the motorway and back home...however as the winter closes in I'm determined to make the most of these opportunities and try a few more of these ABR routes out...here's to the next one.
