Re: Dolomites
I did not miss it.
I have camped 2 nigths at the same place.
Camping CoteVercoors in Saint Nazarine En Royans.
20 km from Combe Laval.
So that I had a full day to explore and enjoy the area.
And drive an unloaded bike, even it wasn't small.
I did one trip early and one late in the day to Combe Laval.
One of the most scenic routes I have ridden.
Maybe time to go home? It wan't get any better.
No I will continue to Italy tomorrow.
Thanks for the information, so I found this place.
Quite a lot of bikes. But not so much traffic that there was any problem.

Re: Dolomites
For places like this, there are a lot of good pictures.
So it is hard to produce something new.
But I will make my own collections. For my own trip.
While you wait for my pictures. Watch this:

Route Napoleon
Route Napoleon. The route Napoleon toke 1815, when returning from Elba
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Route_Napoléon
The first part up to Grasse was most get out of city traffic.
After Grasse, there was a nice part up to Castellane. Where I stayed over night.
The part after that most the most scenic. With even some balcony road.
Closer to Grenoble,it turned more into normal high way.
(I was just enjoying to drive in the alps, and I did not stop to take many photos)

Combe Laval, a scenic balcony road in France
From Grenoble I turned South West to Saint Nazaire En Royans.
Where I found a very good camping.
I stayed 2 nights. To rest after some long days of riding.
And to have good time to explore Combe Laval.
https://www.dangerousroads.org/europe/f ... rance.html
The road was carved out here (with the end of the work in 1898), not for the view, but to make the forestry activity profitable.
I made one ride early in the day.
One pass to get an overview.
One pass to take photos,
And after lunch break and siesta. A second rides. To take more photos, in better light.
It is a very scenic route. With good parking places for the bike.
Slow traffic, since there are blind corner where you can't meet.
There was a bicycle competition that day. On the roads going to Combe Laval.
So roads where closed, and a lot of detours where need. But => see more of the area.

Col du Nivolet
Col du Nivolet
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nivolet_Pass
I arrives late in the evening to a small village close to the pass.
There was a camping some km towards the pass.
The camping reception was closed. But the gate was open. So I pitched the tent.
And went to the other side of the road to a hotel/restaurant to get some food. But it was closed.
The lady there fixed the fees for the camping. And recommended a restaurant in the village, With good food for for low cost.
I rode there. But it was closed, as everything else. Except the hotel.
That is how it is of season. hard to even get a bottle of water.......
The bar section of the hotel had some fast food, that they could heat up in the micro.
Lasagne: Excellent for a hungry biker.
I was up early next morning. Coffee from my own stove.
And then time to ride up the pass.
It was very scenic. With clods and fog, still in the air.
On the "back side" of the pass. After passing the hairpins up to the peak, and going sown on the other side.
Go big. Ride fast..... (Chris: Next trip will be on a Brazilian Honda 400 cc. 2003 carburetor model. (Slowly downsizing)
https://second.wiki/wiki/honda_falcon_nx4
Some higher power can be useful
Than back to the camping and pack everything.

Forecast says nice weather until lunch. And risk for rain in the afternoon.
So early morning as usually. Take of from the camping, as soon as the sun is up.
