"FREEDOM"

Post by Steve T »

Took a run out to the highlands today, seeing as Miss Wiplash of Edinburgh has loosened the shackles.
Headed for Gairloch, having a brew on the way on the shores of Loch Maree at Slaterdale, but not before stopping and catching a view of Slioch, Geoffs hill.

Popped in for a chat with Mabawz and dribbled over his latest ride – an all black CRF1000. :D

Carried on the A832 through Dundonnell and rode up to the track that goes over the hill to the other side of Loch Broom, opposite Ullapool.

Back onto the road towards the Braemore junction, visited the old road cos the view to the mountains was ace

Stopped at the big layby above the Corrieshalloch gorge for another brew and ended up chatting with a 1250GS rider who was on his way home . . . to Tyndrum, after riding up to Durness! A 500+ mile day for him!! Makes my 270+ mile round trip look a little feeble

Still fairly light traffic on the more northern roads, so happy days.
Wonder what tomorrows traffic will be like?

PS - if your riding the Dundonnell road, watch out for feral goats. They were everywhere. Never seen so many of the skittery little feckers before

Well you'd think someone had taken a bottle of motorcycle pop, given it a ruddy good shake and then popped the top off this afternoon.
The roads around Tomintoul & the Lecht were absoloutly buzzing with motorbikes . . . in 1s, 2s, 3s and larger groups. Nearly all of them heading north towards Grantown.
Saw more bikes this afternoon than I saw all last year and up to this point on the calander this year
And there was me sitting quietly supping a coffee and nibbling a bun whilst sunning meself off to one side up a track.

And the A-Holes in their souped up sporty cars were out in force as well. Guess I'll have to stick to week-day rides from now on, to avoid the crowds

I'm guessing a good forecast, a bank holiday and staycationing contributed to the crowds. The A939 was quiet

The A939 past the Bridge of Brown wasn't too busy either.

Cairngorms looked quiet, but there was nowhere to park next to Loch Morlich.

The Cabrach was also just about deserted, and the road to the view of the Tap O'Noth were nicely quiet too.
