Back to Snowdonia Last Week
Solo toured Snowdonia last Thursday and Friday, with an overnight at the Pen-y-Pass Hostel. There was rain, wind, sun and a big overnight storm, and the trip was excellent. Great single lane roads, isolation, green valleys and high passes. This was my second time, and I plan to do this ride annually. 630 miles over two days, with 20 miles of detour around floods.

One big surprise-- at the hostel, I started reading Steph Jeavons' new book, Home by Seven ( The opening is about her teenage years growing up in Deiniolen near the slate quarries of Snowdonia (not far from the route), but her story was very honest and powerful and not what I expected at all. I thought about her story a great deal on the second day of riding.
The best random song in the helmet was from a band Jeavons references in her second chapter-- "Us and Them" by Pink Floyd.
"Listen son", said the man with the gun
