Travel to Spain......a question.

Post by SteveWat »

Nice and quick.....If I travel Portsmouth-Santander on my motorcycle next month for 7-8 days, on my return can I self isolate at home or do I need to go to a hotel in Portsmouth?

My understanding, Amber country, isolate at home. Red country, costly hotel isolation. All could change of course.

Check the Government website for all the latest info but no guarantee that it won't change the next day.

Agree with advice about keeping a regular check as things are very fluid.

I´m travelling next weeked, as it stands I have to fill out the UK Gov´s form online in advance within 48 hours of travelling, do my 10 days self isolation at my home in Wales, including PCR tests on day 2 and day 8 - which have to be booked (with a reference number) in advance of travel into the UK. Not sure about ferries, but for flights I also have to have a certified negative PCR test in Spain within 72 hours of travel to be able to get on the plane.

Costs for the PCR tests have come down, but still worth factoring that into your trip planning.

Thanks all!
The media seems to assume that everyone flys to foreign destinations, therefore information is flight/airport centred..... Despite 42.7 million passing through British Ports every year!

ps if you go to spain for vacation and not work/returning home, then your insurance is 99.99% certain to be null and void given its amber.

I used that ferry March 2020 and plan to use it more.

BF also operate a Rosslare/Roscoff service. I live in Cork 5 miles from the Cork ferryport and there are 2 ferries each week to Roscoff so 15 hours gets me from my house to Roscoff.

But worth checking, I had always assumed that FCO advice against travel meant travel insurance was not valid, but on checking last year I found out that was not the case at all.
