Have you not noticed the size of the pumps hanging from the wings?Dark Knight wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 7:12 pm Would be really surprised if those filters could block the virus, just think of the pressure required to push the air through the filter, more pressure equals big pump, equals more power consumed, equals more cost to run, most airlines are running at the lowest possible cost.
Yeah, I'm no supporter of the international aviation industry. It's an environmental disaster and it's been great to have so many flights grounded during covid, although not for the right reason. However the science on virus filtration inside planes is well established. The filtration systems work to the extent that the virus can spread in a house 6 times more effectively than in a civil airliner. Read that study I linked to above. It may seem counter-intuitive given the close proximities and tight space within a fuselage, but the research has been done and it's conclusive. As I said above, it's all the other parts of the travel process that bring you into contact with a lot of people in an uncontrolled way. Departure and Arrivals lounges are full of people from every corner of the earth, some with much better records of managing covid than others. Personally a long wait at Gate 94 sat next to people from the U.S., Brazil, and the UK would be a pretty bad scenario right now, as those are the countries with the worst performance on CV19 cases.Snaf MKII wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 7:53 amHave you not noticed the size of the pumps hanging from the wings?Dark Knight wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 7:12 pm Would be really surprised if those filters could block the virus, just think of the pressure required to push the air through the filter, more pressure equals big pump, equals more power consumed, equals more cost to run, most airlines are running at the lowest possible cost.
When at altitude I should think the pressure is pretty high but it does beg the question of how efficient the filtration is when sat on the apron loading. I guess there's a rush to be last on these days.
The filtration system is supposed to be hospital grade and I guess it only has to stop the aerosol carrying the virus not the virus itself, there is also the fact that the airflow is down draught and drawn through the floor so any aerosol will drop quicker than normal. There are still surfaces to be considered and i think that's the biggest risk.
All the same I'm not intending on flying this year or may be next.
I was shocked to discover at the weekend via a thread on Twitter that there are women out there who still grow pubic hair...

Getting that Brazilian landing strip just right is a tough nut to crack. Perhaps there's a guide you can buy on Amazon...
It is a strange thing that it all came about due to the Porn industry and the fact that it gives a better view of the goings on.
