For those who compete on two wheels in Europe

Post by AlanHolt »

Copied from TBM - Trailbike & Enduro Magazine

BREXIT - the gift that keeps on giving.... The ACU just now issued a press release that explains how racing motorcycles being taken to European events now need a carnet to travel. And it's the opposite of cheap, check out the following section of the release:
"The Auto-Cycle Union has secured a special deal with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) for ACU members of a fixed price processing/arrangement fee of £240+VAT. This is discounted from the standard fee of £330+VAT that non-members of the GBCC would pay.
Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce is appointed as part of a network of Chambers around the country to issue ATA Carnets.
The second part of the fee is the Premium. This can either be a refundable deposit of 40% of the vehicle’s value or a non-refundable insurance premium to cover the 40% proportion of the premium."
Our reading of that – yeah it's going to cost you £288 plus a refundable deposit of 40% of the bike's value (and for a new KTM you could be talking £4000!) or hopefully a fair deal on an insurance policy (from whom we don't know and at what cost). And jeez, if you're talking two bikes (like below) in the van, yep that's £576, plus £8000 please...
But no worries lads – it's all good, we've got our sovereignty! Talk about buyer's remorse...
Current bike is a Yamaha T7

Jesus, what next?

I don't think even the most pessimistic among us remainers thought it would be quite this bad. It's either halting every freedom we previously had or making it too expensive to exercise any of those left.

The Bemsee club ran a weekend at Croix-sur-Ternois circuit in N France, as part of its season. We all took our vans full of bikes over there on cheap ferries, raced and then drank together in the evening. It was a hoot. Just amateur racing for enthusiasts - plumbers, post-men, truck-drivers etc - nobody special or well-off. That kind of thing will all have to finish now.

The reality is slightly less doom & gloom, but it's still far from sunny. You certainly don't want to be shoving a mates bike in the back of your van if they're not also sitting in it, as an example.

But hey, at least we've got lack of control at our borders, which was the important thing

Well, the good thing is. it will make the export of stolen bikes more difficult.

But this would be pretty much the end of those winter track days in Portugal/Spain, I would think.

Not sure if 'racing motorcycles' means bikes for actual racing, rather than trackdays. I'll send an email to the guys at No Limits tomorrow and see what they say.

Guess it depends on whether the bike has a V5 and registration?

It's all bikes, will need a carnet, unless they have a V5....I guess

surely this is another example of the EU making life difficult for brexit UK?

e.g. .. the EU is trying to cut out the UK in financial services, moving them to brussels, [today on news.]

we are not even given equal status to other `third countries`
they just being awkward bastards ... teach us a lesson .. frighten the bejesus out of other member states that really want `out`? .. and ... most importantly .. piss off the british biking fraternity !!!! gosh !!!!

Eventually it will all be resolved .. but i fear it will take `some time` .. such is the fury and revenge-vindictiveness , of the EU dictators., plus their greed at grabbing our lost assets?

as said tonight on tv ... "its dog eat dog .. and the EU is a far bigger dog" (kevin maguire)

also .. all this will discredit boris and the tory party, make uk people (and also `Bikers`) discontent and horrified ... so that we will vote in the turncoat anti democratic labour party, who love the eu dictators, and would overturn brexit .. plead for re-membership and lose sovereignty and the opportunity for future greatness of these wonderful isles???

perhaps our fabulous vaccines will make us the sole survivors of this world war, started by the chinese in a wuhan lab  8-) 8-) .. [mind, trade wont be so global then???]
