Morocco 2020

Post by Andycrf250l »

Hi folks!

Will start by saying hello as I’m new here.

As the title suggests, I’d like to take a trip to Morocco next year, reasonably flexible on dates.

I ride a crf250l. Have been on various trips across Europe and have some off road riding under me. Trouble is.. my mates aren’t interested in adventure travel, especially over to Morocco.

I’ve spent a week in Marrakech without the bike and found the place enchanting. I would love to return with my bike and see the rest of the country. Anyone interested in tagging along or coming up with something?

Andy.

Considering Morocco in May of 2020

Take holidays around the May 8th and 25th Bank Holidays to get more bang for your buck as they say

Just wondering what the weather is like then? Perhaps snow up high?! Down low should be quite good for riding

You must be quick to get the desired ferry crossing as well

A minimum of 3 weeks would be ideal to ride there and back via either Bibao/Santander ferry port

In my experience that time of year heat south of the Atlas will be more of an issue than snow which hardly ever is at any time, and not for long.
Something to consider if riding desert pistes alone.
On a bike I never book a ferry, just turn up early and one leaves within an hour. There's always space for a bike.
€100 return, usually. This is Algeciras to Tan Med - the easiest crossing.
Three weeks is a good duration. Gives you plenty of time in Mk without rushing around

Immigration will have been simplified a bit by then, too:

Thanks all for your responses and advice! Chris S - I’m fairly certain I’ve just had your book arrive! 😬

Fairly open to suggestions regarding best time of the year to visit? What time would you recommend?

Thanks!

Hi Andy. I was there in April this year. Balmy spring, briefly chilly at 9000', stormy at times, not too hot way down south (25th parallel) but annoyingly windy. That's as late as I would leave it on a bike.
Going back in Feb next year - expect it to be like the other side of November which is usually very stable.
As you'll read in the book, lots of factors affect Moroccan weather which makes it hard to predict.
