France bans the use of headsets.

Post by vRSG60 » Wed May 13, 2015 11:12 am

"The interior minister wants to "improve the attention" of drivers at the wheel and pointed to the fact that one road death in ten is linked to mobile phone use. As a result measure 22 outo f 26 saw him ban the use of hands free-kits and earphones.

The interior ministry sent out a tweet confirming the banning of all kinds earphones, headsets and hands-free kits "that limit the attention of drivers".

So are motorcycle intercoms banned in France as well as in Spain? The wording seems to indicate it.

I don't use earphones for anything on the bike because they take away part of the pleasure gained from riding as far as I'm concerned but in the car the only thing they can do is pull drivers they see wearing headphones or one of those over the ear type hands free sets.

Anyone wearing headphones while driving is an idiot and should be banned for their own good and does anyone still use those over the ear type hands free kits? Most cars have a proper hands free set that's normally voice operated (by those that know how to set it up) so unless they start doing random checks to see if the driver is connected to one it's impossible to police. They might sit at busy junctions with a scanner searching for blue tooth signals but they won't know which car it is or whose phone it is so that part of it is doomed.

Crazy if they are. Last time I toured Spain & France (last year) I didn't worry about it at all. There seems to be an area of contention over what constitutes a 'headset' or 'earpiece' compared to a helmet-fitted intercom system. The language difference hasn't helped here.

So, my case is this - If you get into your car, you have speakers all around you that allow you to hear the 'phone conversation WITHOUT the need to put in an earpiece or put on a headset. Om a bike, you put on a helmet that has speakers left and right that allow you to hear the 'phone conversation WITHOUT the need to put in an earpiece or put on a headset.

No difference, say I.

In the past I have been stopped twice in Spain and the police wanted to confiscate the leads (autocom). Motorcycle intercoms are illegal in Spain and have been for a few years. Being a British tourist doesn't matter if they stop you.

I got away with it on both occasions because my girl was blind. The second time there was row BETWEEN the two police about it - but we were eventually let go.

The only words I really understood was the constant reference to 'blind'. (thumbs)

What if they are not turned on?

Can you be done for having one on your lid evening if it's turned off?

The world really is going mad. What difference talking to a passenger in a car sitting next to you (visual distraction too) and one sat on a bike behind you through an intercomm?
