Anyone ridden the GR99 recently?.....is it still open?

Post by exrm193 »

The off road route from Santander to Barcelona.
I have a track to follow, but it's from 2011. I'm wondering if it's still open?

Thanks

Phil. I've got a GPS track from 2011. Most of it is off road. But I've heard some parts are now shut. 8 of us going next month. Guess we'll just have to suck it and see

That is part of the problem. A lot of it seems to be open only to cycles and hikers.

Sorry - I can't work this one out. The GR 99 is a 'Via Verde' (Green trail) that follows the course of the Ebro river from its source to the sea - both of which I've been to and neither of which are anywhere near Santander or Barcelona!

Without any shadow of doubt it's a non-motor route - always has been - although you'll find the odd Youtube of folks riding quads, etc. on some sections, but ever since the GR99 was launched it has been categorised as a walking/cycle route for its entire length, about 1,000 kms!

Hey, don't shot the messenger -please

Regs

Simon

PS I have a plan one day to do it walking or by canoe for charity . . . downstream of course (thumbs)
