RIP Pint Master, may you ride pain free.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

This direct from Mike Irving

Tony Lacey passed away on the morning of Thursday 28th July 2022.

He had been receiving treatment for Cancer for a few years and had had a couple of significant operations starting in 2019 with one more recently late last year. Tony was keen to get as / keep as fit as he could getting back on his E Bike and then motorbikes as soon as he was able. Between operations last year we did the ABR weekend in a tent ( everyone who know, know that the old Tony rarely slept anywhere that did not have full facilities and a bath rather than a shower, and remember the famous trip to the Lake district where he left us in the Bunkhouse for the expensive hotel down the road) With the New Year we started Pilates at the Ivo centre and private sessions getting fit enough to spend a week in Portugal with Simon Pavey and the ORS crew. He rode most of the days and managed a few beers in the evenings. On our return he was out riding something every day he could, leading ride outs, just the two of us or alone. At Ester we went up North and spent a day in the Lake District and another in North Yorkshire. Unfortunately, the second day came to an abrupt halt as he was involved in an “No Fault” accident with a car and broke his collar bone. He couldn’t wait for it to heal, bought a new 890, paid for special treatment and was back on a bike in just over a month. Signed up for the Tyne Tees TRF Coast to Coast in June but fell ill and was not able to make it. Since then, his health deteriorated rapidly and there was nothing to be done.

If the “Afterlife” mirrors “ Mortal life” in any way I am sure he is already riding a KTM ( or the celestial equivalent) pulling up behind people, blipping his throttle and bumping back wheels. The “Tony Lacey” version of “Valhalla” and he will have a route mapped out for us ready when we get there.

The attached pictures were taken in Portugal March 2022. We have spent a lot of time together, I wish I could have been ridden more and I will miss him. As soon as I have the funeral arrangements, I shall pass them on so we can have just one last ride together.

From Mike

Tony’s funeral has been booked and the date, Tuesday 16th August a 1.00pm is much sooner than I expected. Please can you pass my suggestion to the membership.

To all Members, Past members, Friends and Associates of Cambs TRF Group and Tony Lacey

Tony Lacey, a key member of our club lost his fight with cancer and passed away on Thursday 28th of July. Tony has always been an active and supportive member of the Club going back 15 years or more. His contributions include, but not limited to committee member, Club Representative to the National TRF, Run leader, keen and active supporter of Trail Riding in the UK and most pertinently friend to all of us and in honour of this I propose to follow the hearse to Huntingdon Crematorium on my bike providing an escort and guard of honour and I invite those of you that can to join me in honouring Tony Lacey Life.

Funeral date :- 16th August 2022

Where:- Huntingdon Crematorium

Time:- 1.00pm

We will meet at Compass Cars, St Ives at 12.15pm, The procession will leave at 12.30pm and the funeral will be at 1.00pm. if you are not able to ride are invited to attend the service as there is plenty of room for us at the chapel.

Please drop me a text or email so I can have an idea of numbers otherwise feel free to turn up on your bike at Compass or at the Crematorium.

As you will remember Tony was always passionate about flowers but on this occasion perhaps a donation to Cancer Research.

Have nothing much more to add than already said above. However anyone connected to Cambs or Suffolk TRF will have probably been on a ride out with him. In fact my first Peaks trip (Including Chapelgate!) was hosted by Tony.

I’ll be frank I didn’t always politically see eye to eye with Tony but none the less he never let that get in the way of enjoying a day out riding! Plus he was a very generous man with his time and knowledge. I remember once he took my bike to Cornwall in his van for basically a beer!

A man I have respect for and someone who is a loss to trail riding.

All the best to you Tony.

Cheers
