I don't think Mr putin and friends want us to return to cheap holidays abroad and cheap flights ... his stated aim is a new world order

Tent campers are endangered species.
We are very few left.
Only some old elephants that have not understand to die or quit.

=> The camping sites are made for mobile homes/caravans.
High prices, hard ground ....
Tent ? What is that ??

Those time when you could pitch a tent on green grass and be some cheap stuff in the reception are gone.

Camping prices seem to vary considerably, there are still reasonably priced places around but others with similar facilities seem to pick a figure out of the sky then double it, well they can get F****D, I am a little flexible where I camp so wont pay silly prices. Going by the interest here there is not a great deal of demand anymore from bikers for basic camping, or is that just a lack of anything much on this site for the most part.

I made a trip from Algarve/Portugal via Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden this year.
During end of April and May. => Low season.

18 nights in tent. Average cost was 15 Euro.
Min 13 €. Max 20 €
I searched more for nice places than for the lowest cost.

(And in total 4 nights with heavy rain in hotels. 42€ per night)

Gustav............Pretty much how I try to travel a mix of paid, wild camping the odd hostel and B and B if weather is bad or really need a proper sleep. My kind of camping spot too location more important than shiney things. Higher Accomodation costs one of the dissadvantages of being a Solo traveller.

There are still cheap places to stay, but as 'camping' became mainstream the last couple of years, prices have certainly gone through the roof for the easy options.

I remember the New Forest 10 years ago, stayed in a pretty crap site tbh (lots of us on bikes so didn't care) £8 a night, Red Shoot was a fun ride away for dinner, they were charging £30 for a tent plus extras for dog, awning, car etc. Being ripped off is not new folks, sometimes an Airbnb might be cheaper but it's not cheaper than finding a quiet spot, setting up & leaving no trace after?

You don't have that option if you're not carrying camp gear
With enough profanity, you can accomplish anything

That tent looks like my old Bukta Falcon tent :)
Enfield Himalayan... apparently they're Marmite... not keen on Marmite, but like Vegemite

Last night.... £10 for two plus a tent in a fairly basic and slightly tired but essentially adequate site in the lovely Elham Valley in Kent. Hot showers, plenty of soft bog paper, early morning call courtesy of some very loud sheep.... what more could one want?

If going to Scotland just wild camp for some of the nights. Lots of places along the NC500. This guy found a nice spot.

There are still exceptions to find !!

I loaded my DL 650 for 4 days in the area of Uppsala (just north of Stockholm)

I selected Fjällnora as base.
That is an area that focus on all kind of outdoor/nature activities. Hiking, canoeing ...
There should be a camp site.
When I arrived I asked in the reception about pitching a tent. They asked my "Campsite or tent area! ??
what is the difference ?
Tent area has no service house with showers and WC. Only simple toilets. And it is "the woods" instead of next to the road.
Cost is 30 SEK == 3 Euro per night !!!
Sure I wanted to sleep in the forest and not between Caravans.
