Back in the day he would have used his horn, they would have stopped not him and all would have been fine!
My understanding is that the car was not required to stop and give way to a waiting more vulnerable road user that wished to cross, that rule applies to junctions that you are turning in to. The exits off roundabouts are not marked, you are not turning into another road, you are already on it.
