Well it's not too hard to figure out.
The twats in government thought it was a fine idea to cut down the forces numbers and fill up with part time reserves. What bloody fool thought that would work, bloody idiot. Who would sign up to be a reservist only to get sent out to Afgan and get shot and blasted at for sod all benefit. Also Tony boy with his fantasy weapons and wars have largely killed of any desire by many to join up or trust the government to keep our troops out of other peoples countries.
Any extremist groups trying to take over in Iraq when Sadam was in power would have had a hard time, they would have been wiped out very early on. Sadam was not a good leader but he kept the lid on things, now Iraq is going to hell. How many deaths are due to UK and USA involvement both during and since the second gulf war invasion.
And people are still dying out there in large numbers.
Afgan. Does anybody really thing that the Taliban won't just walk in when all the foreign troops have left. Our guys have done tours out there time and again and suffered greatly, for what? The place is a shit hole governed by tribal law and corruption. Why does the west want to be there. Money. Mineral wealth, oil and power.
All our involvement does is stoke the fires of fundamentalism.
Check out a few other web sites. Just type in Afgan mineral wealth. You might just be surprised and gain a new appreciation of the reasons why western powers and China want to stay in Afgan.

In addition to its vast mineral and gas reserves, Afghanistan produces more than 90 percent of the World’s supply of opium which is used to produce grade 4 heroin.
US military bases in Afghanistan are also intent upon protecting the multibillion narcotics trade. Narcotics, at present, constitutes the centerpiece of Afghanistan’s export economy.
The heroin trade, instated at the outset of the Soviet-Afghan war in 1979 and protected by the CIA, generates cash earnings in Western markets in excess of $200 billion dollars a year.
