GS650 Dakar

Post by GSJames »

Hi all,

So I guess this is the compulsory newbie message!..

Being 19, I've recently passed my mod 1+ mod 2 test, and have bought my first bike with actual power!See attached BMW gs650 Dakar.

I aim to use this bike for medium distance touring, adventure, and some offroad. I'll be looking to buy some panniers, new sump guard, and eventually when I get some money- a new set of exhausts. The bike has already been fitted with a Scott oiler, new sprocket, new forks and new brake pads.

I guess this is a message to see if there are any hints and tips anyone can give me when it comes to buying the best things for the bike, and making the bike the best it can be!

Thanks, I look forward to responses!

Welcome aboard from Somerset. New forks? Where did they come from?
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Hi mate,
I'm not too sure to be honest, I didn't ask the previous owner. They are Showa forks though- probably common for the GS?

Welcome young sir. An excellent choice of bike. If you are interested we are just about to sell a set of BMW panniers for the f650.

Good choice of bike.
My best advise to you is ride safe, and don't mess up your dads garage, these places are sacred, wifes and girlfriends are all to aware! Also, replacing the odd can of Lube and stuff will earn you points.
Above all, enjoy!
Congratulations.
