i'm from portglenone
i need the smaller/lighter bike as i have done a lot of damage to my chassis in the past so loads of bits dont work so good anymore
a mate mentioned the v strom but as i have a bias towards Honda (vtr 1000/Honda sealey trails bike /c90 scooter ) i didn't listen now i have to go back for a ear bashing

Got to agree with the others. Go for a Transalp if you are a honda man. I got one as a commuter/off road toy and its brilliant. 600 are cheap now,run forever(mate of mine just sold his with 112k miles on the clock),650 are a bit dearer but the better bike. Worth a look.
You also might want to have a look at the xrv.org.uk forum,lots of useful info

Before anyone can advise ref adv/touring they will need more info.

Your budget, useage as in on or off road how often you plan for each. Your own choices so they can compare and make other suggestions based on what you need and visually like?

But everyone is different.

the thing is i don't really no what i want i don't want a expensive bike and then have to worry if i drop it
the friends i have don't go off road on their 1200 teneres ,but we are planing to go to the black forest alps etc next year and the vtr i have tends to get uncomfortable after a time
i like the looks of the v strom
well i like all adventure bikes but i think 650cc would be lighter and lower than the 1200

Honda Transalp
Honda Dominater
Honda Africa Twin. (most bikes doing the Paddy Dakar here in Ireland are twins. I used on last year myself)
Suzuki DR 400 with safari tank.

Loads more choices out to but most of the above will get you through.
