ABR and Bridgestone Bridges of Britain route 2 - QEII Bridge to Thames Head

Post by Anthony »

This route takes the length of the Thames from Thurrock in the east and traces it to it's source in Gloucestershire, taking in over 200 bridges on it's way (surely we should have saved some for later), but for now we've only picked a handful of the most interesting ones.

Now, be aware this route does take you through Central London *shudder*, so it's best to start pretty early if you want to beat the seriously congested sections. Riding through the City of London on Sundays can be eerily quiet, devoid of the usual take-your-life-in-your-hands couriers and City boys running to and from Pret for their crayfish & avocado sandwiches, but even with that being said the route opens up into the leafy suburbs west of London soon enough. From there it takes you through the picturesque Henley-on-Thames up into Oxford where the locals refer to the river as the unfortunately named Isis, ending conveniently at The Thames Head Inn near Cirencester.

Even if you don't want to ride the city sections there are plenty of worthwhile places of interest along the way, so get out there and enjoy.
