Post by JamesABR »

Hi guys and girls, attached here is the GPX file for the ABR TomTom Brecon Beacons Discovery Route which was featured in issue 55 of Adventure Bike Rider magazine. It's a great route through a beautiful part of the world and well worth a ride if you've got a day spare. Enjoy!

If you'd like to ride this route, we've plotted it out so that you can download it and stick it in your SatNav. Simply right click on the attachment below called 'ABRTomTomBreconBeaconsDiscoveryRoute and choose 'Save Link As', once you've saved it to your computer load it into your SatNav as per the manufacturers instructions and get riding!

Thank you...
and whilst we're on the subject, where, please, are the downloadable route files for the trips in the "TomTom-Guide-to-Motorcycling-in-Britain" you recently highlighted?

You can find all of the routes by downloading the guide here: https://www.adventurebikerider.com/tomtom-guide

Once you've done that, each route will have a 'SatNav Guide' box in which you'll find a link that will take you to each relevant gpx. file download.

Hello there is there an error in this GPX etc, in the screenshot below which is taken directly from the GPX your taking the track East of the A470 the blue bit on my screenshot below on the section between point 7 and 8, this is just North of the Storey Arms if your familiar with the area. This area is quite local to me and I dont believe this trail is legal but would be real happy to be proven wrong.

Thanks for the heads up Bikenav. The route in the gpx. file was created with Google Maps, so it'd be strange for that to route it down an illegal road. We're at Motorcycle Live this week, but will check the gpx. file as soon as we can and make any nessesary changes.

the route shown in blue, by Paul, is part of the Taff Trail .. a long distance cycle route going from Brecon to Cardiff, (though this section does not seem to be part of the national cycle routes).
Although it is a cycle route, this does not mean, in itself, that motor vehicles are not permitted, as the Taff Trail often uses tarmacked roads to connect off road tracks.
However, the last 1km of Paul's blue route, to the north, up to Old Glanrhyd, is shown as a restricted byeway, [on bing maps],
.. which does not legally allow public access using motor vehicles, except for locals access.

The diamonds along the route show it to be a long distance path or trail.
"OS .. European Long Distance Route, Long Distance Route, Recreational Route have the same symbol. Note that the symbol is the red diamond - it may appear along a public footpath (as above), bridleway, road, or by itself. "

.. also vague .. but the clincher seems to be the restricted byway section to the north, with no obvious alternative route?

.. looking at google maps .. does not show any restriction .. appears to show a road straight through? .. even a holiday cottage for the public ?? .. tho this could be construed as local use, temporarily? …..

All I know for sure is that all this confusion is biased against motorcyclists!

.. and rightly so .. ya wazzaks .. :D  .. .. ..
8-) 8-)
