There is also a fantastic ( legal) Byway that starts at the foot of the dam wall ( the dry side) and follows the river Claerwen for about five miles until you find yourself back on the road you came up from the Elan reservoirs; takes about half an hour and well worth doing if in the area- it starts with a lovely river crossing and just gets better :)

Hi all.
Enjoyed the route that much I'm planning on doing it again next weekend.
fingers crossed for good weather.

Good to hear Shaggy! A great extension to the route, if you fancy making it a two-day thing, would be to head north into Snowdonia and follow this route: viewtopic.php?f=140&t=44342

Hi. Looks good.. Ive been around there a few times before..
Unfortunately I only have the Saturday free so it's now a toss up between the original route and the add on bit.!!
