Thursday 6th. A nice morning weather wise, after a pre ordered breakfast at the campsite bar/cafe we were back on the road,,we headed off on the D902, the N94, crossed back into Italy unto the SS24. The previous day's weather forecast proved right and we were soon riding through heavy rain, we continued on he SS335, aiming to take the tunnel back into France , however it was closed due to flooding, the rain had stopped but it was still overcast, anyway in true ABR fashion we thought we would take a wee single track road into the mountains in the hope it would lead to France. - off we went up the STR Per Rochemolles, soon the tarmac gave way to gravel, and after about 6 miles we decided to go no further, as it seemed to be getting steeper and rougher, and not a good idea to go on with the fully laden bikes. We stopped above a reservoir, turned around and headed back down
By the time we got down the tunnel was re-opened and we got through (after being relieved of €27 each). We continued on he N543, D1006 and the D902, another high pass up and down the other side to Val-d'Isere. As we entered the town we saw a campsite, so a quick fill up, some supplies and booked in. Tents up and a dander into town
Not many bikers wouldpass this without getting a picture!
Anyway, a quick bite to eat, back to the tents and Gazebo for wine & cards. The weather looked promising for tomorrow.

We would be staying in Steve's chalet in Morzine (and getting a taste of how the oher half live!) Just before Morzine Steve took us to a great Patisserie to sample some of their produce.
And they tasted as good as they looked.

The weather had returned to being warm & sunny. Heff & Steve soon settled in at the chalet.

After a cooked meal, we had a walk into Morzine, we soon found out there was a major rally going on, some great motors, and interesting to see the support teams hard at work
Back up to the luxury of the chalet, more cards, beer & wine, with the bonus of a proper bed to climb into at the end of the night.

Re: Destination Alps ( and some other places along the way)
Saturday 8th. Our intention was to just stay one night in Morzine, but we decided that we would stay an extra night, and an extra night in a proper bed would hopefully give some of our troublesome backs/limbs a wee bit of relief, in addition to this the weather outlook looked good, there was plenty going on in Morzine and we had no real schedule to follow other than making it back to Cherbourg to get our return ferry. So a leisurly lie in, a casual breakfast, then Steve and Allan took Heff & me on a wee ride around the surrounding area.
We took the D338 that took us up to the ski resort of Avoriaz - strange seeing these places at this time of year, more or less abandoned, but would be packed out during the skiing season.
Great viwes to be had up here

Re: Destination Alps ( and some other places along the way)
Back down the other side, through a wee village with goats wandering about all over the place, then along Lac de Montriond were we stopped for a brew
We made our way back down to Morzine, the D338 was a lovely road, but due to the on-going rally the corners had gravel thrown across them from the rally cars that must have been on it recently.
Steve & Allan cooked a local dish of potatoes, onions, bacon and (alot) of cheese, very nice.
Another stroll into Morzine to see the goings on then back for the usual alcohol and cards
Tomorrow would be farewell Morzine and onward to Switzerland.

Re: Destination Alps ( and some other places along the way)
Great write up so far.
I spent a fun couple of weeks this summer exploring the ski resorts round the Aosta Valley in Italy I've skied in over the years and it was strange trying to recognise places I thought I knew when they were all green rather than white.
