Got out of work early today so took a detour home
A couple of bridges that go over the old Newry Canal
Then an old petrol station on the Tandragee Nerwy road a greatroad with some lovely turns
Then the local history part, i read an article about Americian soldiers stationed in Gilford County Down during WW2. They were stationed in a large statley home and the Americian guards on the gate would sharpen thier bayonets on the sandstone pillars which resulted in noticable grooves on the sandstone, so i went to have a look
Pillar behind the bike
Sure enough, easily spotted close up
Then home via some back roads
Amazing what you can squeeze into an hour and a half.

I work out that part of the world on occasion and never knew about the bayonet marks. But now I am going to find them, where exactly are they at?

Tomboy,
If you come through Gilford from Portadown direction turn left at the roundabout heading towards Banbridge, about 25 yards up on the right is the enterance to the big house
