My advice, based on weather is don't make up your mind on where to start until you see what the weather is doing.

If it looks like northern end will be sunny for a week and the southern end is awash, go north.

Foggy made a good comment and in truth there are some places best enjoyed just by parking the bike, making tea and enjoying the scenery. There are so many roads you can divert onto and enjoy, places you will want to stop in........

If you do get a wet day....not under pressure the list of nice pubs and places is endless. Even on your own lots will stop and talk to you.

An alternative: One of my favourite places is Ballycastle up in Antrim. Not even on the WAW its just lovely to stop in and enjoy the seafront. So to is the Antrim coastline. Add in the Mournes and you would have a perfectly acceptable 5 day trip at a pace that is awesome on the senses and maybe even get to meet Heff and Moorso! Newcastle on a Sunday morning is an experience loved by many with good reason.

I am not biased, just all very different places and spoiled for choice.

Yeah Newcastle would be right out my back door and do it regularly so was looking something a little different.

But thanks everyone for the suggestions and comments so far all very insightful.

I do agree though that there is a bucket load to see and do and that's where I would be likely to fail. I love takin snaps so could find myself getting 50 miles down the road and realise a day is gone.

However I think this is the route I'm going to aim for and well if I don't make it in my seven days the most I ever am from home is about 4/5 hours anyway.

So I think I'll wing it! :)

Winging it is the only way in my book (thumbs)

There is just so many photo opportunities, as you say the day will be gone before you know it. :(

When you do go we will expect the now obligatory ride repot with pics

I just realised Newcastle was home territory.

As Heff said, just wing it and you wont go wrong. I have done 150 miles in a day and ended up 50 miles from where I started.....You could spend that whole 5 days in just Kerry or Clare alone.

Well I took this week off work, off to Kinsale tomorrow for a wee night in a B&B then hit the road on Monday and hopefully hit London/Derry on Saturday afternoon!

Weather looks shocking tomorrow but then seems to improve slowly over the week, as I was told this week, there is no bad weather, only bad clothes! (thumbs)

See what happens, anyone interested I will be Tweeting some nice photos along the way with the hashtag :

Good man. Try and post the odd up date on your progress.

Full ride report on your return to normality (thumbs)

Me and a buddy plan a three day trip in Mid September.
Just the Mayo section really. Can you still book a fishing trip out into Clew Bay from Westport?
