ABR Midlands Rally 25th - 27th July 2014 - Info and Sign Up

Post by Alun »

For the past 3 years the ABR Midlands Rally has been held in August at Granby Farm, near Halford in deepest, darkest Warwickshire but with the Salisbury Plain Rally taking the August slot the original plan was to give the Midlands a rest.

The Midlands Rally in Full Swing

However, due to a gap in the calender and a number of regular rally goers lamenting the chance to bed down in the untamed wilderness of the Warwickshire countryside we'll be hosting a meet on 25th, 26th and 27th of July 2014.

Granby Farm is about 8 miles out of Stratford with full off road/Enduro riding facilities. We'll be camping in a fantastic rural location – it's a wild camp, if you can call anything in Warwickshire 'wild' – but we will be hiring in Portaloos for the more cultured rally goer..

Charles the farmer will be once again be providing enough wood for us to speed up global warming and the Huw's catering van will be on-site for the full duration.

There'll be a green lane ride out on the Saturday and the Enduro course on the farm is there for you to ride at any time. And if you were there last year then you'll know that there are enduro circuits which are big bike friendly and others which are better suited to lighter off-roaders. Basically, it's as easy or as tough as you want it.

If there's enough interest then there'll also be a guided road ride.

The 'Bog of Doom' challenge will be back on for 2014 and if you attended over the past couple of years you'll be aware that Mike Beddows and Craigrevo made crossing the mud gulch look about as difficult as drinking a pint of cider on a hot sunny day. This year I'll be praying for the return of the glue like silt and taking a front row seat to watch riders disappear in the Amazonian style swamp.

Ride outs

1 Enduro and mud plugging at the venue

2 Green lane tours of the Cotswolds and nearby countryside. In 2012 and 13 the green lane ride-outs were very popular and the group size was way to big so in we'll be keeping group sizes down and hopefully have more ride leaders on hand to show you the best of what the area has on offer.

3 Road tours of the best roads in the Cotswolds - with a cream tea and scones.

4 Do your own thing – there's loads of great roads and countryside for you to explore at your leisure.

Directions
Coming from the North
From M40 junction 15, Take the A429 towards Cirencester. Enter the Village of HALFORD take the first left,(if you pass a pub on the right or petrol station on left you have gone to far). Into IDLICOTE ROAD. You come to a sharp left bend in the road with a right fork - take the right fork. Follow the lane for about a mile until it drops down a hill - the campsite is on the right through a gate at the bottom of the hill. If you continue up the hill GRANBY FARM is on the right.

From Stratford upon Avon
Take the A4300 to Shipston on Stour. At the roundabout just past the village of Newbould on Stour take the 1st turning (heading north) to Halford on the A429 (The Fosse Way) After about 2 miles you enter Halford and take a right just past the garage into IDLICOTE ROAD - see above.

PRICE
£10 per night which includes full use of the off road trails on the farmland, male and female portaloos, all the campfire wood and we'll have a marquee set up just in case it tips down.

Facilities
There will be a catering van on site from Friday lunchtime serving all the usual nosh; burgers, bacon, sausage, curry, chips etc plus tea and coffee. The van will be on-site until Sunday afternoon and will be serving full breakfast. It's the same van as 2011/12 and you'll not be disappointed with quality and quantity.

If we get enough numbers we'll hire a marquee again so that if the weather weather is crap there will be some cover.

There is water available at the farm plus the catering van will have bottled water available.

Local facilities
There is a garage, small shop and pub in Halford - about 2 miles away.
Shipston on Stour is approx 4 miles away and has supermarkets, pubs, hotels, b&b's, chip shops, Chinese and Indian take aways. The nearest hospital is at Warwick with a smaller minor injuries unit at Stratford upon Avon.

Wanna Come?
If you want to book a space at the Midlands Rally post below and if you'd like to volunteer to lead a ride out do likewise. I'll update this 1st post with a full list of who's coming.

I'll also be posting up some pics from last years rally and a google map of the location over the next few days. If any past rally goers have pics they'd like to post up, please do.

Nice one Nick I was hoping you'd attend, there was a disappointing lack of rooster trails on the marquee last year. :)
