Mike,

I'm covering the HU over that weekend down in Donnington, if I can get up to Cumbria just for the sand ride I will give you a bell or a text mate.

Just checked the weather, it's rain in Cumbria for today and tomorrow but then looks to be dry right through to the weekend.

Forecast for Saturday and Sunday is 16/17 degrees and overcast, so not too bad.

Hi Mike

Just found out about this event and it sounds great. I'm up for the Piel on the weekend and the trail ride beforehand if a 1200GSA, with TKCs, can make it over the planned trails and there's room for one more? After two weeks with ABW (Skygod/Gaz) in Morocco I'm experienced with the GSA on reasonably rough trails now.

I can make it up to the campsite Friday around 7. If the trails are too extreme for the GSA then happy to do some of the Lakes passes Saturday morning instead.

Hello James,

Yep, no problem. Come along. There's a couple of sections that can be tough, but you sound like you know what you are doing so I'm sure they won't be a problem. I've done them on a 950 before. We have a mixed spread of bikes for the trail ride, from an xr400, husky., 990s , klr and your GSA.

If the trails are too tough we will just go round. The main aim is to get to the beach byway so ill adjust the route to suit on the day. If we do the trail at nibwaith I wouldn't recommend on a GSA. But no harm riding to the rocky step section and watching the rest of us have a go. It's a route to no where so we have to come back down. Obviously if you have a look and want to do it, feel free. No pressure on anyone on Saturday, a nice leisurely few trails to the piel crossing. Will involve a few road miles towards the end, say 15 miles just to get to the beach byway.

Currently got a problem with my husky...in that it won't start. Will look at later and hopefully fix. But it refused to start last night and I ran the battery flat a couple of times.

See you Friday.

Unfortunately it's a no from me for the friday night/trail ride. swamped at work and my boss has told the client i'll have some work done for monday... so i won't be able to get off early enough on friday to make it up

so will be riding up leisurely on saturday to meet you at the crossing point....

see you there

Just posted this on the piel thread but thought I'd stick it on here as well...

Just to recap.

Heading for this campsite Friday night.

http://baysbrownfarmcampsite.co.uk/index.html

It does state no groups on the website and I'm wary to phone them to ask the group question. I've previously contacted another site and they point blank refused, so we are all on our own for finding a place to camp Friday night. If I can't get in the above ill be heading for the great langdale national trust site.

http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holiday ... -langdale/

If they won't let me camp then ill probably head back towards wainwrights inn near bays brown farm campsite (see the map on the campsite). Ill hang around there until approx 1930 and if anyone else has found a site come and let me know. My backup then is to point my bike up the closest mountain, get as far up as I can and then wild camp.

Saturday. Those that are trail riding, think there approx 6 of us. Meet at wainwrights inn. Or somewhere close and visible. We will be riding from here at 0830.

The crossing for piel is from snab point. We will be leaving here at 13:30. Don't be late. We will be guided across by a 4x4 from the island. No one is to cross without the guide. Ill probably ride out a hundred meters and park up to help anyone that needs picking up.

See you all there.

Additional. We will be passing through hawks head. There's a shop here for supplies, grub, drinks etc etc. probably passing approx 1000.

I'm aiming to get to the beach byway for 12 noon. Once done, its a short ride to the crossing point for piel.

Make sure you have fuel for the start of the ride. At least 80 miles in the tank. There's fuel in barrow for when we return from the island on Sunday.
