Was in North Yorkshire yesterday doing a recce.

Some great trails to do. 1 has a very hard rocky ascent (not long) but if you pick the wrong like you will struggle to get up....and the right line just happens to be the scariest way up. It should be do able for all, even with a push and a shove.

There are a few easy trails thrown in across moorland, including a 8-9 miles one.

BUT, there are 3 lanes all after each other. Id estimate the distance is about 3.5 miles. It took us 2 hours to get through. Fantastic route but not for the faint hearted. Lots of muddy decents and ascents, very slippery. Loads of deep ruts which will ground your bike......and LOTS of bogs with knee to thigh deep water. We tried to avoid these but if you take the wrong line and end up it will be a pain to get out. These lanes are rarely used, and are only wide enough for bikes, no 4x4's. We all fell off and all needed help lifting and shoving the bikes through the various sections.

So, we can either have a go, or miss them out. Its more suited to Enduros than big bikes......but it will be fun. My vote is to have a go. Or at least do the first which is the easiest then decide if you want to continue. The 3rd is the worst.

Will post up some pics when I can.

But I have to stress, this route is not suitable for dual sport tyres. Its full blown knobblies otherwise you wont stand a chance. And you have to be willing to go for it on the tricky sections otherwise you will just get stuck (To be honest, I doubt theres a rider out there that wont get stuck at some point on these trails). Great fun.

Forgot to mention fuel, there are NO fuel stops on the route. We didnt pass any anyway on the recce. Nearest to Goathland I can figure is Pickering or Whitby (nearest I think). Unless anyone knows better?

So, have enough fuel for the ride (min 100 miles) and enough then to get you to a fuel stop on your way home please.

Sounds good .. ... def a new rear TKC needed I think.... I don't even want to ask but how does some of it compare with that lane I couldn't get up in Wales ?

Yep, a new TKC is a good call.

And you shouldnt have asked, it will only worry you! OK, the uphill rocky section, remember the steps on Sarn Helen. Similar to those but up. There is a line which will be possible on the GS.

The 3 knarly trails. 1st shouldnt be a problem. Theres a very muddy decent through a small ford. If you avoid the deep rut it will be fine, then theres just enough grip on the uphill section. The 2nd trail is a lot harder. Again, if you can avoid the last deep rut (I didnt and got the 950 stuck) which is possible then the rest should be OK, very slippery though. The 3rd trail, well, lets see how everyone does on the first 2. The 3rd is bog after bog......and thats only if you get up the steep muddy slope first.

On all trails theres virtually no options to turn around....and it would be pointless as trying to get back out would be harder than going straight on.

Going to be great fun! Bet you wished you hadnt asked.
