In all my globetrotting years I have never used headlight deflectors on my bikes and have never encountered any problems either - that includes all over Europe, USA, Russia and Northern Africa.

Hi Nixy Lake Garda is very touristy in the summer - lots of day visitors in coaches etc - maybe not the quiet lake you may envisage. If you have never ridden in Eastern Europe then prepare to be surprised. Most major roads are in much better condition than those you are used to in the UK - agreed, a small minority of the back roads can sometimes be a bit rough but I have experienced worse riding through Coventry.
