What route are you taking? I believe Cherbourg/Rennes/Nantes/Niort/Bordeaux is ok on the services but you pay for them. Having done it recently I would certainly carry some spare fuel and get fuel if you see it available.

Those opening hours are usually about 8am - noon.

I go a lot and just back after 3 weeks there. Almost all fuel pumps card operated and no cash. Be prepared for your cards being refused at fuel pumps. Issue of reading them!
